Carrier broker relations, payment terms and the effects of the mandatory implementation of Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) were topics reviewed by the panelists.
Michelle Arseneau, Managing Partner at GX Transportation was one of four carrier panelists speaking to the large audience of freight brokers attending the event.
Key points made by Michelle included, “Our company has transitioned to 95% electronic payments over recent years. Those brokers still paying by cheque typically use it as a stall tactic. The good brokers provide all the information you need up-front to deliver the load correctly, whereas the bad broker will leave out the details required. Our business remains steady but we see our customers maintaining a more cautious approach to business since the economic upset in 2008/09. The implementation of ELDs is likely to thin out the herd as many carriers will not have the financial resources to comply with the new regulations. This may reduce capacity and drive up rates in the future.”
